Excerpt

He stood on NaQuetta’s doorstep in the middle of the night being deceived by his wife. Lela, don’t do this to us. He held out hope that everything was on the cool.

Lela dropped the phone to the floor and tried to collect herself. Her heart was beating so fast, she could hear it and see it beating through her lace gown. Neil’s routine was like clockwork. He always called when he was on his way home and had never come home in the middle of the night. “Oh my God, he’s home!” She knew she had to talk to him, so she picked the phone back up, placing it to her ear. “Lela?” Neil called out to her, still holding out hope that there would be an innocent explanation for his wife’s midnight escapade.  “Yes, baby,” she whimpered. “Is everything okay, Lela?” Terrance said as he stirred from his sleep. He did not know what was going on, but seeing Lela in this state concerned him. Hearing the deep male’s voice was all it took for Neil. His worst nightmare had come true. He was about to lose control, so he used his only strand of hope to fire off his next set of questions.

“Lela, where are you? I came home early to surprise you. The deal is closed and I bought you a gift to let you know how much I appreciate you being by my side. Now, tell me who is with you?” He knew for sure it was innocent. It has to be, he reassured himself over and over. She wouldn’t cheat. We are happy. Not Lela. God, not Lela!
