The Old Star Saga

The Pirates of Sufiro

The Pirates of Sufiro is a novel by David Lee Summers. It tells the story of the colonization of a planet by pirate captain, Ellison Firebrandt, his first lieutenant, Roberts, and Suki, his lover. The planet soon becomes a refuge for people of all sorts, looking for a new life and a chance to start over. Things go wonderfully, until Captain Jerome Ellis of the Mao Corporation discovers the rare mineral, Erdonium, on the planet. Soon, the old settlers are battling the new entrepreneurs for control of the planet. At the same time, the galaxy faces a new threat...a power that destroys space ships at will...an enigma called the Cluster.
Children of the Old Stars

Children of the Old Stars is the title of the sequel to The Pirates of Sufiro. In this story, Jerome Ellis' son, Captain John Mark Ellis embarks on a search for the enigmatic Cluster. He is joined in his quest by an alien warrior/philosopher, and an evangelist -- who believes that the Cluster is God incarnate. Meanwhile, Ellis' mother, Suki Firebrandt Ellis, discovers that the leaders of the known galaxy know more about the Cluster than they are revealing.
Heirs of the New Earth

ISBN 1-885093-49-7

The Earth has gone silent. John Mark Ellis and the crew of the Sanson are sent to investigate. When they arrive, they find vast alien machines known as Clusters in orbit. Fearing the worst, they land and discover that the once overcrowded, polluted Earth has become a paradise of sorts. The problem is over half the population is dead or missing and the planet's leaders don’t seem to care. As Ellis works to unravel the mystery, sudden gravitational shifts from the galaxy's center indicate something even worse is in the offing. Can Ellis save the galaxy from the heirs of the new Earth?

The Solar Sea
The Solar Sea

The Solar Sea tells the story of humanity's first voyage to the outer planets. Thomas Quinn, heir of the powerful Quinn Corp, designs and builds the space ship Aristarchus. Meanwhile, the VLA radio telescope in New Mexico makes a strange discovery about Saturn's moon, Titan, and marine biologist Myra Lee has discovered an unusual phenomonon in the oceans of the Earth... I've had this idea for a number of years, and even started it twice. Ultimately, I threw away what I'd started as simply not working. Inspired by the Cassini mission to Saturn, I made a fresh start for the National Novel Writing Month, November 2004. After some more work, I started submitting the novel and it has now been accepted for publication by LBF Books. More updates soon!
